The 5 Golden Rules of applying tape!
1. round off the tape ends
2. apply the ends with no stretch
3. the ends of the tape always stick to the skin
4. avoid handling the glue side of the tape
5. rub the tape all over after applying to ensure a good stick.
What kinesio-tape can do - Symptom relief taping
SRT aims to reduce pain, stiffness tightness and weakness. Two common ways to apply tape for SRT:
1. Fibre Tape: (Put the tissue on to a stretch), apply the tape in line with the direction of the muscle fibres.
2. Decompression taping: (Apply 20-80% stretch),tape across the joint, perpendicular or oblique to the direction if the muscle fibres.
Taping helps by....
Improving movement, changing negative movement patterns through proprioceptive feedback, because skin and fascia influence movement, fascia especially is receptive! The tape influences skin tension through its application (particularly decompression taping). The subcutaneous space alters and offloads vascular and lymphatic networks, thus increasing or normalising lymphatic flow if swelling is present.
